Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.” Psalms 37:4 NKJV
Have you ever read this verse and imagined God might be like a vending machine? Put in some happy coins and He will give out what we want. The second part of the verse is easier to hang on to than the first part. What if God Himself is our desire? If we are delighting ourselves in Him, really truly, He will be our desire.
How can we not ‘delight in Him’ when we consider what Jesus did for us. The great rescue. Holy God come to the rescue of depraved humanity.
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” Romans 3:23 NKJV
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23 HCSB
“For while we were still helpless, at the appointed moment, Christ died for the ungodly.” Romans 5:6 HCSB
When we understand that we are all in need of God’s help and the salvation He offers to those who will accept, it’s easier to trust Him.
Today we should pray for eyes to see God’s incredible love for us. We can pray that as we remember Jesus’ faithfulness, we will trust Him no matter what situation we face. “Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness.” Psalms 37:3 NKJV
