“Then Jesus said to His disciples, ‘If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.’” Matthew 16:24-25 NKJV
These verses, when at this time of year the focus is on giving…thanks, gifts, love, laughter.
Jesus said we give…our lives. What exactly does that mean? Practically? It’s different for everyone. Time, talent, resources, money, yes, we all have something different to give.
One thing we all have to give Him is our will, our desires and goals. As we place these in His hands, He will lead us into the purpose for which He created us.
Today we should pray that God will show us what we have to give. Is this not the best way to imitate Jesus, to follow His example? He gave everything for us.
“Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.” Philippians 2:1-4 NKJV
