“For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” Romans 5:7-8 ESV
Every year we come to this awesome time of reflection. Jesus traded the glories of Heaven to come here. Into a country held captive by cruel leaders. Hated by those to whom He reached out. And yet He did. Knowing how it would end. Doesn’t it bring tears to your eyes? It should! He took that cruel cross for us!
“For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” 2 Corinthians 5:21 ESV
It doesn’t seem a fair trade. He gave up everything to gain us. Sinless Son of God took our sin so we can be forgiven.
Today we should take some time to ponder the wonder of the cross. We can pray that in our pondering, God will bring us in closer to Himself. This should cause every one of us to lay ourselves on the altar in surrender and submission to our Holy King.
“Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful; he will surely do it.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 ESV
