“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” John 10:10 ESV
What a contrast! Death or life! There was a specific time in history when Jesus left the glory of Heaven to step into our world. He knew what it would cost Him. He did it anyway.
“I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep. (…)
For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father.” John 10:11, 17-18 ESV
This week I have heard several devastating stories. Maybe you have too. This world is so very broken and it doesn’t take an investigative journalist to show the brokenness. People do not always choose life. They don’t know. Yet God extends His love, has compassion, and wants people to know Him, the life-giver, life-restorer, life-healer.
Today we should pray first that we ourselves will be surrendered in every way to this King Who came to give us Life. Then we can pray that we will be carriers of this abundant life to the broken world around us.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.” John 3:16-17 ESV
