“A generous person will be blessed, for he shares his food with the poor.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭22‬:‭9‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Today is a good day to pray that God will bless every person who is helping the victims of the horrible disaster in our southeastern states. Using things as various as helicopters and mules, many people have come to the aid of those who have lost everything in the floods and landslides.

I was awake last night too early to get up for the day. Thoughts of things going on in the world were bombarding my mind. Not just the floods, but also the wars, inflation, the invasion of our country by unvetted foreigners, many of them criminals, the upcoming election. Enough to keep me awake!

What do we do when we see these things? We can follow Daniel’s example when he was carried off to a foreign land:

“Daniel determined that he would not defile himself with the king’s food or with the wine he drank. So he asked permission from the chief official not to defile himself.” ‭‭Daniel‬ ‭1‬:‭8‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

As a teenager, Daniel determined not to defile himself. For him it was the king’s rich food and wine. What is it for us? What would prevent us from building our lives on the solid Rock of Jesus?

“The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock.” ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭25‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Maybe there’s something we need to determine to give up. Maybe God is calling us to serve. Maybe both!

“Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord, not people,” Ephesians‬ ‭6‬:‭7‬ ‭NIV‬‬

One thing for sure:

“The name of Yahweh is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are protected.” Proverbs‬ ‭18‬:‭10‬ ‭HCSB‬‬

Today we should pray through Psalm 13:

“Lord, how long will You forget me? Forever? How long will You hide Your face from me? (…) But I have trusted in Your faithful love; my heart will rejoice in Your deliverance. I will sing to the Lord because He has treated me generously.” Psalms‬ ‭13‬:‭1‬, ‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭HCSB
