“I have asked one thing from the Lord; it is what I desire: to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, gazing on the beauty of the Lord and seeking Him in His temple.” Psalms 27:4 HCSB
The house of the Lord- what a beautiful, precious, peaceful place it should be. A place to seek God’s face. To sit in His presence. So I tuned into the National Prayer Service that presidents have attended the day after inauguration for nearly 100 years, from what I understand. I assumed it would be a time of worshipping our Holy, one true God. A time of prayer for this administration.
“Don’t let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ.” Colossians 2:8 NLT
What I watched shouldn’t have shocked me but it did. Our ‘Christian nation’ allowed Muslims to pray, even though they call us infidels. They do not acknowledge Jesus as the Son of God Who died and rose to redeem us. Clearly we do not worship the same God. And then the ‘sermon’. Much has already been commented on that by many others. No wonder Paul gave this admonition to the church in Colosse, and now to us. We need to read and know God’s Word so we can discern His truth.
Today we should pray that we will be established in and know God’s truth. Praying the ‘sinner’s prayer’ is only the beginning of a brand new abundant life, but anything that’s alive must change and grow. We should pray that we will follow Jesus, our roots will grow in Him, and our lives built on Jesus.
“And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” Colossians 2:6-7 NLT
