“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 ESV
What does it take for us to really put Jesus first in our lives? Pilate had the right idea when he ordered the sign above Jesus’ head:
“And over his head they put the charge against him, which read, ‘This is Jesus, the King of the Jews.’” Matthew 27:37 ESV
Then there was a centurion who likely helped with the crucifixion:
“When the centurion and those who were with him, keeping watch over Jesus, saw the earthquake and what took place, they were filled with awe and said, ‘Truly this was the Son of God!’” Matthew 27:54 ESV
At what point does our belief become so strong that we can ‘seek His kingdom’ first? Is it a mental recognition? When is it felt by the heart? At what point does our belief lead us to bow in recognition of God’s sovereignty over all, including our own lives?
“Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” Philippians 2:9-11 ESV
Today we should praise God that He holds our lives in His hands. We can pray that He will calm our hearts so we will trust Him in all things. And we can pray that Jesus will help us to put Him and His righteousness first. “Ascribe to Yahweh, you heavenly beings, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to Yahweh the glory due His name; worship Yahweh in the splendor of His holiness.” Psalms 29:1-2 HCSB
