Focus

“Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways. Do not turn to the right or the left; keep your foot from evil.” ‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭4‬:‭25‬-‭27‬ ‭NIV‬‬

We live with so many distractions. The summer distraction of my garden prevents me from sending these messages out as often as I have before. That’s a nice distraction, but others are not so pretty. Screen time, complete with screen reminders of how much time was spent on a device the previous week. I think it’s safe to say the majority of us can be easily distracted.

“As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received.” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭1‬ ‭NIV‬‬

How do we do this? What should this life lived for Jesus look like?

“Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.” ‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭4‬:‭2‬-‭3‬ ‭NIV‬‬

Unity is so important to Jesus that He prayed for it on the night He was betrayed. That doesn’t mean we accept or embrace sinful behavior, but we do show kindness to others. We look to God’s Word, showing Truth.

Today we can agree with Jesus’ prayer for unity among His people. We should pray that our focus will be on Jesus and not be distracted by the things of this world, no matter how enticing they may be.

“They have been quick to turn away from what I commanded them and have made themselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. They have bowed down to it and sacrificed to it and have said, ‘These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.’” Exodus‬ ‭32‬:‭8‬ ‭NIV‬‬
