“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,” Hebrews 12:1 ESV
What race do we have? Each one of us has a different ‘lane’ in this life. The beginning is different. So is the end. The middle bit, the part we’re in right now can seem to be as changing as a flowing river.
How did Jesus do it? Unlike us, He knew how excruciating His earthly death would be. He kept the goal in sight.
“looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2 ESV
And what is our goal, our race, our purpose?
“Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:19-20 ESV
Today (National Day of Prayer) we should pray that God will show us our specific part for this specific time and place to walk in obedience to His command to us. It comes with the promise of His presence, and so much more!
“For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21 ESV
