“And when the men of that place recognized him, they sent around to all that region and brought to him all who were sick and implored him that they might only touch the fringe of his garment. And as many as touched it were made well.” Matthew 14:35-36 ESV
It’s hard to imagine this scenario in our time and culture. There was a healer in the land. If only… could He? Maybe? How do we interpret ‘as many as touched it’? Or maybe a better question for us today- what changed?
We all have something. Sickness, relationships, financial issues, we can all name something we would love Jesus to fix.
“But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. ‘The Lord is my portion,’ says my soul, ‘therefore I will hope in him.’” Lamentations 3:21-24 ESV
Maybe it’s what we focus on. Yes, we need to find solutions and they are often far from easy. I’m not wanting to trivialize any issues that anyone is facing today. Have we collected enough accounts and stories in our lives of God’s faithfulness to be able to say that our hope is in Him?
“do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 ESV
Today we should pray through those verses. We can bring our petitions to the One Who sees us, hears us, loves us, and is all-powerful.
“Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, rejoice.” Philippians 4:4 ESV
