“But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. (…) For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.” Ephesians 5:3, 5 NIV
This morning I noticed 2 opposites from two different Bible plans. The first was a list of 3 sins. Greed was right up there with immorality. Huh? Greed? My mind turned to the contrast between life in the west and life in the east (btw, who gave these labels out?). My mind sees a pastor’s hut on a raft in a floating village in Cambodia compared to a parsonage here in the USA. Or the dedicated obedient ministry to slums and brick kilns in Pakistan.
Then I continued my reading in Exodus and saw another contrast.
“Moses said, ‘Please show me your glorious presence.’” Exodus 33:18 CEB
If we would be greedy, may our greediness be for more of Jesus! More time with our Father, more love for our Savior, more obedience to the leading of Holy Spirit!
“I have asked one thing from the LORD— it’s all I seek: to live in the LORD’s house all the days of my life, seeing the LORD’s beauty and constantly adoring his temple.” Psalms 27:4 CEB
Today we should pray that the one thing we want in life more than anything else is Jesus and His presence in our lives!
“Moses came down from Mount Sinai. As he came down from the mountain with the two covenant tablets in his hand, Moses didn’t realize that the skin of his face shone brightly because he had been talking with God.” Exodus 34:29 CEB
