“And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.’” Revelation 21:2-4 ESV
The manger, the cross, and the empty tomb are inextricably related. Without any one of these, either we wouldn’t have the others, or they would be meaningless. We see God’s heart of love in each of them. His desire for us to be His people.
This morning a verse in a familiar passage jumped out at me:
“For many, of whom I have often told you and now tell you even with tears, walk as enemies of the cross of Christ.” Philippians 3:18 ESV
With tears. Paul, in a Roman prison was crying for those who did not walk with Jesus. It jumped out like a precious nugget of compassion.
Do we have that? What are our minds and hearts fixed on?
“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” Matthew 6:33 ESV
“For with God nothing will be impossible.” Luke 1:37 NKJV
Today we should pray that our minds and hearts will be fixed on Jesus. We should pray for compassion for those who don’t yet know Him. And if that person is you, you don’t know Jesus yet, please don’t wait another day to call out to Him! Jesus loves you!
“One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple. (…) You have said, ‘Seek my face.’ My heart says to you, ‘Your face, Lord, do I seek.’” Psalm 27:4, 8 ESV
