Jesus Only

“Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, ‘Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.’ While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, ‘This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!’  Matthew 17:4-5 NKJV

How would you like to be interrupted by God? Impetuous Peter came up with what he considered a brilliant plan. Then the Father steps in. The reaction of the disciples- worship, fear- this was a new experience (God loves to create)!

“And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and were greatly afraid. But Jesus came and touched them and said, ‘Arise, and do not be afraid.’” Matthew 17:6-7 NKJV

Jesus extends this invitation to us as well- do not be afraid! Is it something new, something different that we’re facing? Is it the same old thing for which we just can’t see an end or victory?

“When they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.” Matthew 17:8

Today can we just linger a bit until we see Jesus only? The invitation is there for each of us to rest in Him, bring our burdens to Him. Today we can center our minds, our thoughts on Jesus and leave our issues at the foot of the cross.

“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.” Philippians 2:5-7 NKJV

Ladies, I’m looking forward to discussing things like this at our next 2nd Saturday gathering. It will be a time of celebrating the fact that Jesus said ‘yes’ to His Father and stepped down into our world. Potluck brunch from 10-12 December 14.
