Not Nameless

“She said to her mistress, ‘I wish that my master could come before the prophet who lives in Samaria. He would cure him of his skin disease.’” ‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭5‬:‭3‬ ‭CEB‬‬

We don’t know this girl’s name. What we do know is that she is a young foreign (Israelite) slave in Naaman’s household. Naaman was a general in the army of the king of Aram. Naaman had leprosy. Long story short, Naaman went to Elisha, and God healed Him. Naaman’s response:

“(…) He came and stood before Elisha, saying, ‘Now I know for certain that there’s no God anywhere on earth except in Israel. (…) Your servant will never again offer entirely burned offerings or sacrifices to any other gods except the LORD.’” ‭‭2 Kings‬ ‭5‬:‭15‬, ‭17‬ ‭CEB‬‬

What’s our story? How much do we trust God? The nameless girl was important enough to God that she is mentioned in His timeless Word. We don’t know her story, but God does. And because of her boldness, Naaman was not only healed but declared that God is the Lord.

How important are we to God? We are not nameless to Him!

“But now, says the LORD— the one who created you, Jacob, the one who formed you, Israel: Don’t fear, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name; you are mine.” Isaiah‬ ‭43‬:‭1‬ ‭CEB‬‬

And, like this foreign slave girl, we have work to do in this world that is not our home. Bondservants of Jesus, we can pray that we will know what our task is and have the boldness to do it!

“(…) Look, I tell you: open your eyes and notice that the fields are already ripe for the harvest.” John‬ ‭4‬:‭35‬ ‭CEB‬‬
