“Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert in this with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.” Ephesians 6:18 HCSB
Paul had just given the list of the pieces of armor for our spiritual battle. He finishes by using the words ‘all’ and ‘every’. All times, all perseverance, all the saints, and every prayer and request. Was he exaggerating? Or was he sensing the enormity of the battle?
Do we sense it? When we surrender ourselves in repentance to the God of Life, we become enemies of the god of darkness who came to steal us back, kill us, and destroy anything dear to us.
“A thief comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy. I have come so that they may have life and have it in abundance.” John 10:10 HCSB
We are given the choice. Life or death. The consequences of our choices are not ours to choose.
“I call heaven and earth as witnesses against you today that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Choose life so that you and your descendants may live,” Deuteronomy 30:19 HCSB
Today we should pray that we will recognize the urgency of the times we are in. We should pray for the boldness and strength to choose life and to follow Paul’s directive to pray and stay alert. And we can thank God for His peace that He wants to give us when we trust Jesus.
“And the peace of God, which surpasses every thought, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7 HCSB
Ladies, we have two opportunities next weekend to discuss these things, pray together, search scripture together, and encourage one another!

November 10 is the retreat at Morningside Lutheran Church.
